Disney World bans eating or drinking while walking around resort

Officials at Walt Disney World in Florida have banned guests from taking food and beverages outside of dining areas as the reopened theme park attempts to prevent the spread of coronavirus in its facilities.

Local news affiliate ABC 13 reported that guests must remain stationary and 6 feet apart from others while eating or drinking. It was unclear if the restrictions applied to children.

Other than at dining areas and special “relaxation stations,” guests are reportedly required to keep their masks on at all times.

Guidance on the theme park’s website remained unclear as of Monday, indicating that some locations would not be open for dining services.

“We’re committed to a responsible reopening of Walt Disney World Resort — and we’ve made some important updates and enhancements to our dining experiences based on guidance from health authorities, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and appropriate government agencies,” reads the Disney website.

“During the reopening period, many dining experiences may be modified or unavailable in order to promote cleanliness and physical distancing,” it continued.

Disney World reopened this month despite surging numbers of new coronavirus cases in Florida, as well as other states around the country. The collection of parks including Epcot Center, Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom is currently operating under modified rules while two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, remain closed.
