Group flies ‘Trump loves Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ banner over Philly on Election Day

An anti-Trump organization flew a banner over Philadelphia Tuesday with a message to turn residents of the city against the president that read, “TRUMP LOVES JERRY JONES AND THE COWBOYS.”

The organization, Rural America 2020, has previously erected billboards near the site of Trump rallies in Iowa and Georgia reading “Trump COVID superspreader event.”

The banner was one of two the nonprofit flew over the city, with the other reading “VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.” The group said in a tweet that it “had fun with the other one.”

The city of Philadelphia is known for its love of football and its home team, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles took on the Cowboys on Sunday, beating the Texas team 23-9.   

Trump is a longtime friend of the Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, and praised him in 2017 for saying he would bench players who did not stand during the national anthem.

Jones has reportedly been leery of making any political statements in support of the president, but after Trump was hospitalized with coronavirus he expressed his well-wishes on Dallas radio.

“No one in the world has the ability to handle this COVID any better than the office of the president of the United States,” Jones told radio station 105.3 The Fan.

“I’m very confident he’ll be able to continue governing. Really, really I’m sure he’s anticipated this, knowing him,” Jones said. “He’s the hardest worker you’ve ever seen. Knowing him, he’ll be able to go on right on through this and hopefully not miss a beat.”

The flights of the banners come on Election Day in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania, where Democratic nominee Joe Biden holds an edge over Trump, according to recent polling.

Trump won the state over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by less than a percentage point in 2016.
