Hare ‘disappointed’ by lapsed healthcare deadline
At least one Democratic lawmaker isn’t pleased with his colleagues’ work to reform healthcare so far.
Rep. Phil Hare (D-Ill.) told WGIL radio that he’s “disappointed” the House wasn’t able to pass a preliminary reform bill before the August recess.
The House adjourned for the break without a final bill to pass the entire House. The Energy and Commerce Committee reported out its bill late last night in a fairly close vote, with some centrist Democrats having broken with their party to side with Republicans.
“You take the 37 day break that we have — and in each Congressional district you take those numbers, and moved them out,” Hare said, according to WGIL. “That would mean approximately every day, for the next 37 days…almost 1,200 people are going to lose their insurance and 34 people are going to die.”
