Maryland company terminates employee who wore badge during Capitol rioting

A Maryland company terminated an employee after he was seen storming the Capitol building along with supporters of President Trump wearing his company badge Wednesday.  

Navistar Direct Marketing released a statement condemning the male employee, who remained unnamed, for participating in the Capitol building’s “security breach.”

“Navistar Direct Marketing was made aware that a man wearing a Navistar company badge was seen inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 during the security breach,” the company’s statement said. “After review of the photographic evidence the employee in question has been terminated for cause.”

“While we support all employee’s right to peaceful, lawful exercise of free speech, any employee demonstrating dangerous conduct that endangers the health and safety of others will no longer have an employment opportunity with Navistar Direct Marketing,” the statement concluded. 

Navistar Direct Marketing declined to provide additional comment.

The man in question, apparently seen wearing a Navistar Direct Marketing badge, is in photographs that Washington, D.C.’s, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) released to track down persons of interest. He is shown on pages 14 and 24 of the MPD release, wearing a Make America Great Again hat and carrying a flag. 

D.C. police identified dozens of people of interest who participated in the Capitol rioting, accusing them of “unlawful entry” into the area. 

The rioters temporarily disrupted Congress’ certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College win, causing the House and the Senate to halt debates on GOP lawmakers’ objections to the election results. 

Four people died amid the chaos at the Capitol, including one woman who was shot by a plain-clothes Capitol Police officer. The shooting is under investigation.
