Video of marriage proposal during COVID-19 vaccination goes viral

A video of a nurse in South Dakota getting proposed to while administering a COVID-19 vaccine went viral.

Eric Vanderlee, a registered nurse was administering a coronavirus vaccine to his now fiancé Robbie Vargas-Cortes, who’s an EMS supervisor, NBC News reported.

Video of the proposal posted to Facebook by Sanford Health on Dec. 31 shows Vanderlee rolling up Vargas-Cortes’s sleeve, and is shocked by what he sees.

“So, it’s been kind of a crazy year,” Vargas-Cortes tells Vanderlee, “And you know it’s been a fun ride to have you in my life, so I just want to know …”

Vargas-Cortes then grabbed the ring and puts it on Vanderlee’s finger. The two hug at the end of the video.

Vanderlee then administered the vaccine to his fiancé, CNN notes. Vargas-Cortes left within 10 minutes to respond to an ambulance call.

The couple told the news outlet that they would not plan their wedding until after the pandemic.

Vargas-Cortez said the outpouring of support following the video going viral, particularly from other South Dakota residents, has been “uplifting.”

“It gives me a new confidence to be OK with who we are. I always say I’m too scared to hold his hand in public, and now that this has happened, that seems kind of silly,” he told CNN.
