Texas public safety officials blame test malfunction for ‘Chucky’ Amber Alert
Texas officials are apologizing after issuing a warning last week that a “child” from the film “Seed of Chucky” was abducted by the classic horror movie character.
An Amber Alert sent to Texans on Friday warned that “Glen,” age 5 and 2 feet, 3 inches tall, was abducted by Chucky, whom officials identified as 28 years old and 3 feet, 1 inch. Officials in the warning listed Chucky’s race as “Other: Doll.”
The warning listed that the doll was “wielding a huge kitchen knife.”
The Chucky character was introduced in the 1988 horror film “Child’s Play.” A doll named Glen is introduced as Chucky’s child in the 2004 film “Seed of Chucky.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety apologized for the notification, saying in a statement that the alert was sent due to “a test malfunction.”
“We apologize for the confusion this may have caused and are diligently working to ensure this does not happen again,” the department said.
Television station KENS5 reported that Texas residents who had previously subscribed to the state’s alert system received the erroneous warning via email three times on Friday.
Don Mancini, the director and writer who created the Chucky character, shared the mistaken notification on Twitter, joking “PLEASE FIND THEM.”
PLEASE FIND THEM, @TiffnyMovieStar AND I ARE FRANTIC. PLEASE NOTE: THE KID IS NON-BINARY, THANKS. @BillyBoydActor @JenniferTilly https://t.co/Z3AatyConp
