Nickelodeon unveiling Lakota cartoon character
Nickelodeon on Thursday is introducing one of the first Lakota characters to appear in a major animated TV show.
Charles Little Bull, a graduate student who appears in a green jacket and with his hair in two braids, will be introduced on the children’s show “The Casagrandes.” He will tutor one of the show’s characters named Carlota Casagrande.
“Charles is a patient, encouraging, and positive tutor who never gives up on a student no matter how challenging,” a Nickelodeon official told Axios. “Charles loves to learn, and when he’s not tutoring at the library, he’s hanging at the library — he even has his own reserved table!”
Little Bull is voiced by Native American actor Robbie Daymond.
Axios first reported the introduction of the animated character.
“The Casagrandes” debuted in 2019. The popular show focused on a multigenerational Mexican American family in the fictional Great Lakes City.
But Little Bull is not the first Native character to premiere in animated shows in recent years. PBS introduced the show “Molly of Denali” in 2019, making it the first nationally distributed children’s show with a Native American lead.
