President Biden’s son Hunter Biden in a new interview opens up about his father chasing him down a driveway during an intervention for his substance abuse.
In the interview with “CBS This Morning,” set to air Monday, Hunter Biden says that after a tense confrontation, he stormed out of the house and tried to get in his car and was chased down by his father.
“I tried to get into — I tried to go to my car. And my girls literally blocked the door to my car. Said, ‘Dad, Dad, please. You can’t. No, no,’” Hunter Biden says. The events took place as Biden’s family sought to hold an intervention for him in Wilmington, Del., in the run up to the elder Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.
“And he grabbed me in a hug,” Hunter Biden said. “He grabbed me, gave a bear hug, and he said — and just cried and said, ‘I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do. Please—’”
When asked what he felt of his father’s plea, Hunter Biden says, “I thought, ‘I need to figure out a way to tell him that I’m going to do something so that I can go take another hit.’”
“It’s the only thing I could think. Literally. That’s how powerful. I don’t know of a force more powerful than my family’s love. Except addiction,” he said.
The interview will air the day before Hunter Biden is scheduled to release his memoir, “Beautiful Things,” which centers on his struggles with substance abuse.
Hunter Biden will also appear on “CBS Sunday Morning” on Sunday, where he will address a controversial New York Post report alleging that a laptop of his was found purporting to show his business dealings in Ukraine.
