DC group gives away joints to the vaccinated for 4/20
A Washington, D.C., marijuana advocacy group is celebrating 4/20 by giving away joints at vaccination centers across the nation’s capital.
D.C. Marijuana Justice is holding their “Joints for Jabs” giveaway beginning April 20, the annual unofficial holiday for marijuana enthusiasts, and plans to hand out more than 4,200 joints.
Officials from the organization said home cultivators of marijuana in the district donated more than 8 pounds of cannabis for the initiative, Fox5 reported.
The joints will be available at approximately 20 vaccination centers.
“Celebrate the end of the COVID-19 pandemic by getting a vaccine and a joint,” the group said in a promotional video on Facebook.
The joints are “Initiative 71 compliant,” meaning they are legal under Washington’s marijuana laws allowing residents to possess certain amounts of marijuana, grow up to six marijuana plants in their homes and more.
The District isn’t the only city where advocates used the creative approach to encourage vaccinations.
Marijuana activists and the AIDS activist group ACT UP NY are also holding a “joints for jabs” giveaway in New York City, according to PIX11.
Washington residents who have been vaccinated may want to take advantage of multiple offers on Tuesday. Krispy Kreme announced earlier this year that it is offering a free doughnut every day of 2021 to Americans who can prove they’ve gotten a shot.
