Five wounded after shooting in downtown New Orleans

At least five people were wounded in a shooting early Saturday morning on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) first said that detectives were investigating the shooting shortly after 2 a.m. local time. The department later confirmed that five people were injured.

Two of the victims arrived at a local hospital, two were transported to a local hospital via emergency medical services, and one was treated at the scene. None of the victims are believed to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.

No information regarding a motive for the shooting or whether police had identified a suspect was immediately available. The NOPD said no further information was available beyond what had already been released.

The shooting follows other incidents in recent days in California, Colorado, North Carolina and Georgia. The Congressional Research Service defines mass shootings as incidents involving four or more victims.
