Former Obama official named NFL senior VP of communications
Katie Hill, a former Obama administration official, has been named Senior Vice President of Communications at the NFL.
Hill, who most recently worked for former President Obama’s family office as communications director, assumed her new role at the NFL on May 3.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome someone of Katie’s talent to the NFL,” Jeff Miller, Executive Vice President of Communications, Public Affairs and Policy at the NFL, said in a statement.
“Her communications vision, world-class strategic instincts, and deep understanding of today’s dynamic media, digital and cultural landscape make her an excellent fit for the League and our goals,” he added.
Hill previously served in the Obama White House from 2015 to 2017, holding several posts including assistant press secretary and spokesperson for a number of policy issues such as health care, education, veterans’ affairs, sports and the Council on Women and Girls.
Prior to her time at the White House, Hill was National Press Secretary for health care at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2014 to 2015.
Hill reacted to the news on Twitter, writing that it is “bittersweet” to leave Obama’s office after “four exhilarating years.”

In her new role, Hill is responsible for leading the NFL’s day-to-day communications operation and aligning the league’s communications strategy with its priorities, according to a statement announcing her employment.
She will also work across departments to ensure that there is consistency among messaging and strategy, and highlight success stories.
Additionally, the NFL said Hill will focus on identifying “reputations issues” for the league and its 32 teams, and develop strategies the mitigate their impacts.
Her new role, will be based in New York.
