‘Karen’ baby name popularity drops over 170 spots in 2020
Naming babies Karen has dropped in popularity in 2020, going down more than 170 spots on the Social Security Administration (SSA) list, NPR reported.
Karen dropped 171 spots, as the name has gained a negative connotation on social media.
Users on social media often call a person a “Karen” to mean they are rude or overreacted in a situation.
As the popularity of the Karen meme rose, parents have begun avoiding the name for their newborn children.
Only 325 baby girls were named Karen in 2020, dropping it down to the 831st spot on the list, Fox News reported.
The name was very popular back in 1965, with over 33,000 babies being named Karen.
SSA also found the two most popular names in 2020 were Olivia and Liam. It is the second year the two names have been seated at the top of the list.
The top ten boy names in 2020, according to SSA, were Liam, Noah, Oliver, Elijah, William, James, Benjamin, Lucas, Henry and Alexander.
The top ten girl names in 2020 were Olivia, Emma, Ava, Charlotte, Sophia, Amelia, Isabella, Mia, Evelyn and Harper.
