Lightning hits One World Trade Center spire during meteorologist’s live report
Lightning hit One World Trade Center in New York City during a meteorologist’s live report Friday.
Meteorologist Lee Goldberg of ABC 7 New York was giving a weather forecast update when a lightning strike occurred live.
The 30-second video posted to YouTube shows Goldberg pointing to clear skies as the lightning appears.
The lightning took Goldberg by surprise, though he noted this wasn’t the first time lightning has struck in the middle of his forecast.
“Oh wow!” Goldberg said. “I think we actually just uh — this is the second this [has] happened to me on air where lightning strikes right when I come on.”
“It looks like it struck the spire of One World Trade, which is exactly what it is supposed to do. So, that is amazing!” Goldberg concluded.
After he commented on the lightning strike, Goldberg continued his forecast.
Footage of the strike uploaded to Flipboard showed other angles of the lightning from the Jersey City shoreline.
