Baltimore shooting leaves 1 dead, 5 injured
A shooting in Baltimore on Wednesday afternoon left one dead and five injured.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said the five people who were wounded are in critical condition, the Baltimore Sun reported.
Police say a group was standing on a block in Baltimore when two or three people ran up and open fired on them.
The shooters ran away after the incident and have not been arrested. One officer was close to the scene and responded within a few minutes, according to the local outlet.
Harrison said the attack was a “very brazen, very cowardly act of shooting indiscriminately into a block where they struck six people. They could have potentially hit and killed many others.”
“We know that this is an unfortunate thing that happens in this area of west Baltimore,” Mayor Brandon Scott said. “We will not and cannot accept that.”
Scott said the city can be a place “where we don’t continuously allow people that we know to be so weak that they will shoot six people, that they are so weak that they’re afraid that their basic little conflict that could have bruised their ego from some petty dispute can end in a loss of life,” The Associated Press reported.
This shooting adds to the more than 260 mass shootings that have taken place in the U.S. in 2021.
