Chris Christie book ‘Republican Rescue’ slated for fall release
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s (R) new book, “Republican Rescue: Saving the Party from Truth Deniers, Conspiracy Theorists, and the Dangerous Policies of Joe Biden,” is set to be released on Nov. 16.
The book is being published by Threshold Editions, a conservative imprint of Simon & Schuster, according to The Associated Press.
Threshold said the book, in which Christie addresses his fellow Republicans, is “a timely and urgent guide to moving the party forward,” according to the AP.
The imprint said Christie felt “compelled to weigh in on the past four years, but especially the past few months, and explain how these falsehoods, and the grievance politics they support, cost his party the House, the Senate and the White House in two years, for the first time since Herbert Hoover,” according to the wire service.
The release of the book comes as Christie continues to be a rumored 2024 presidential contender. The former governor for months has been dropping hints that he may throw his hat in the ring again after his failed 2016 bid saying in February 2019 that he “certainly would consider it.”
He doubled down on those comments in December 2020 when he said he would “not rule it out” after being asked if he would wage a presidential run against former President Trump in 2024.
Additionally, the book further bolsters Christie’s relatively newfound resistance to Trump.
The former governor, who used to be a Trump ally and was among the first prominent Republicans to throw his support behind the then-GOP candidate in 2016, became critical of the Trump last year after contracting COVID-19 following a debate preparation session at the White House.
Christie called out the Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic and concluded that the former president’s actions amounted to an “impeachable offense” following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by pro-Trump supporters.
Christie in May said he will not wait to see if the former president launches a bid for the White House in 2024 before making his own plans for the upcoming election.
“Christie delivers a frank insider’s account of that election and the tragic descent of some members of the Republican Party into cowardice and madness, as well as no-nonsense solutions for how to recover the party’s image and integrity, and how to beat back the ultra-liberal policies of Joe Biden’s Democrats,” Threshold wrote, according to the AP.
“Republican Rescue” is the first installment of a two-book deal, according to the AP. The second release is to be determined.
Christie in 2019 wrote the book “Let Me Finish: Trump, the Kushners, Bannon, New Jersey, and the Power of In-Your-Face Politics.”
