S.C. House GOP to discuss Sanford impeachment
A meeting Saturday of South Carolina’s House Republican caucus will include a discussion about impeaching Gov. Mark Sanford (R), Majority Leader Kenny Bingham said this weekend.
At least one member in attendance — state Rep. Greg Delleney (R) — has even started drafting an impeachment resolution, The Sun News (S.C.) reported Friday.
State Republicans have grown increasingly skeptical of the mildly unpopular Sanford in the days after he rejected Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer’s offer to finish the remainder of his term. At the time, Bauer pined Sanford to leave office out of fear that “impeachment will dominate next year’s legislative session instead of issues like the economy and job creation.”
