Infowars host faces misdemeanor charges over Capitol riot
Infowars host Owen Shroyer is facing misdemeanor charges for his alleged role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Shroyer was charged with disorderly and disruptive conduct along with obstructing and impeding passage on U.S. Capitol grounds, according to a court document filed on Friday.
The document alleges Shroyer was seen on video entering the Capitol while leading a “1776!” chant.
“[T]oday we march for the Capitol because on this historic January 6, 2021, we have to let our Congressmen and women know, and we have to let Mike Pence know, they stole the election, we know they stole it, and we aren’t going to accept it!” Shroyer allegedly said in the same video.
Shroyer is the host of “The War Room With Owen Shroyer” on Infowars, a far-right website.
Shroyer even talked about stopping the certification of electoral votes for President Biden a day before the riot occurred, according to the court document.
“Americans are ready to fight. We’re not exactly sure what that’s going to look like perhaps in a couple of weeks if we can’t stop this certification of the fraudulent election … we are the new revolution! We are going to restore and we are going to save the republic!” Shroyer said in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 5 to a crowd of people.
The court document mentions a prior arrest Shroyer had at a House Judiciary Committee meeting in 2019 where he began shouting.
Shroyer agreed with the prosecution to complete community service and not do certain things like engage in disorderly conduct in Capitol buildings and on Capitol grounds.
The conditions were in effect on Jan. 6 as Shroyer did not complete any of the hours of community service he had agreed to.
Shroyer is one of the hundreds of people who have been arrested in connection with the riot.
