Ravens QB Lamar Jackson mum on vaccination status ahead of season opener

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson refuses to say whether he has been vaccinated against the coronavirus ahead of the team’s season opener on Monday night.

In a news conference Thursday, Jackson once again dodged a question on his vaccination status, saying it’s a private, medical matter.

“I want to keep that between me and my family and the doctors,” Jackson said. “That’s all.”

The Ravens are scheduled to play their first game of the season on Monday night in Las Vegas against the Raiders.

Jackson tested positive during a team COVID-19 outbreak in November, forcing him to sit out a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He tested positive a second time in late July, causing him to miss the first 10 days of training camp.

Last month, Jackson declined to say whether he would get vaccinated, calling it a “personal decision.”

“I just got off the COVID list,” Jackson said at the time. “I got to talk to my team doctors and try to see how they feel about it. Keep learning as much as I can about it and we’ll go from there.”

The NFL said late last month that 93 percent of its players had been vaccinated.

The leagued recently revised its COVID-19 policies, saying fully vaccinated players will be required to get tested weekly. However, NFL’s Player Association President JC Tretter has called for daily testing for fully vaccinated players.

The Baltimore Sun noted that vaccinated players who test positive can resume team activities, if they are asymptomatic, by returning two negative tests 24 hours apart.
