Authorities order Rams fans to leave downtown LA after chaos at Super Bowl celebrations

Los Angeles Rams fans celebrating their Super Bowl win were ordered to leave the downtown area by the Los Angeles Police Department after celebrations turned rowdy Sunday night. 

Rams fans were seen in videos, which have since gone viral on social media, jumping on cars and lighting fireworks as they celebrated the team’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals, its first Super Bowl victory in 20 years. 

Police first sent out a tweet at 12:30 a.m. ET on Monday asking fans to celebrate the Rams’ win “responsibly.”

“We ask those that are celebrating tonight, celebrate responsibly. Do not allow your actions to tarnish a great Super Bowl win. Obey all police orders and clear the streets around the area of 11th and Hope,” it said in a tweet.

However as the revelry continued, the LAPD issued increasingly stern warnings.

At around 1:30 a.m. ET on Monday, the LAPD tweeted about “violent and destructive behavior” by large crowds in the heart of downtown.

“We have issued several dispersal orders and have a large police presence,” it added. 

Police ordered 11th and Hope streets to be evacuated and the crowds dispersed when fans lit fireworks inside a bus, according to Los Angeles Times reporter Kevin Rector.

At 2:11 a.m. ET, the LA police department sent another tweet telling fans they would be subject to arrest.

“We continue to see large, violent and destructive crowds, in the Downtown LA core area. Those involved in criminal activity, and those failing to obey dispersal orders, are subject to arrest,” it said.

Some in the crowd were also seen looting a store, according to ABC7 News. The LAPD has yet to report any arrests stemming from the unruly celebrations.
