Pilot dies after plane crashes into tractor-trailer on North Carolina highway

A pilot died after a plane crashed into a tractor-trailer on a North Carolina highway Wednesday. 

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement that the crash occurred on Interstate 85 near the Davidson County Airport near Lexington. 

The crash involved a twin-engine Beechcraft Baron aircraft and a tractor-trailer in the afternoon. 

Officials told CBS 17 the pilot died in the crash as the aircraft was engulfed in flames. No one was in the truck at the time. 

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of the investigation.
