Report: Blagojevich subpoenas Durbin to testify at his trial
Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) on Friday issued a subpoena to Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin (D) to testify at his corruption trial.
NBC Chicago reported that Durbin, the second-ranking Senate Democrat, said that the former governor, who was removed from office in January 2009, demanded that he testify.
Durbin revealed the subpoena after he spoke on behalf of Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias (D).
On Thursday, Blagojevich’s defense attorneys said they wanted to subpoena President Barack Obama to take the witness stand at the trial.
Blagojevich is charged by federal authorities with attempting to use
his office for personal gain and with attempting to sell Obama’s former
Senate seat after he was elected president in 2008.
