Boehner: ‘Not a chance’ immigration reform passes this year
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) says immigration reform isn’t likely to happen this year.
“There is not a chance that immigration is going to move through Congress. Even the president, last night, admitted this wasn’t going to happen,” the top-ranking House Republican told reporters on Thursday.
He called Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer’s (N.Y.) attempt to reach bipartisan consensus on the hot-button issue, in the middle of an election year, “nothing more than a cynical ploy to try to engage voters, some segment of the voters, to show up in this November’s election.”
