Obama to visit Gulf to survey oil spill’s impact

President Barack Obama will travel Sunday morning to survey the effects of an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

White House spokesman Bill Burton said the president will travel to the Gulf tomorrow, but said details on Obama’s specific route would be released later.

Obama received an update from his National Security staff before leaving the White House for Michigan on Saturday morning.

The trip puts to rest speculation over whether the president might travel personally in order to see firsthand the effects of an oil spill on the area.

Some Republicans and other critics have raised questions about the speediness of Obama’s response to the situation.
