Bright’s campaigner manager starts firm

One of the most heralded campaign managers of the last year is launching his own consulting firm.

David Mowery, who guided Democrat Bobby Bright to victory in one of the reddest districts held by Democrats, has announced the formation of Mowery Consulting Group LLC.

Bright, the formerly independent mayor of Montgomery, didn’t raise as much money as some Democrats would have liked. But he still defeated state Rep. Jay Love (R) in November’s general election, even as Republican presidential nominee John McCain won 63 percent in the district.

Bright was the first Democrat elected to the district since the 1960s.

Mowery then turned around and, four months later, got Montgomery County Commission Chairman Todd Strange elected to replace Bright as mayor. In a field of six candidates, Strange took more than 50 percent of the vote and avoided a runoff.
