Casey comes around, backs Specter

After initially holding out, Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) on Friday endorsed Sen. Arlen Specter’s (Pa.) reelection bid as a Democrat.

Casey said the following on the Bill Press Show:

“I’ll support him and it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have some work to do to go around the state and to listen to people in our party and go through the process…In the end, if my goal, which has to be my goal, is to make sure that we have two Democrats in the Senate in 2011, it’s important that I support him, I believe.”

Casey said that means he’ll support Specter no matter who else joins the Democratic primary field.

Currently, Democrat Joe Torsella has said he is still moving forward with his Senate campaign and Rep. Joe Sestak continues to mull a bid.
