Moran outpaces Tiahrt in first quarter of Kan. Sen. race

Rep. Jerry Moran (R) outpaced Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R) in first quarter fundraising in what is likely to be a competitive GOP primary for retiring Sen. Sam Brownback’s (R) Kansas Senate seat.

Moran hauled in more than $522,000 while Tiahrt raised approximately $391,000.

In a statement, Moran thanked his supporters.

Tiahrt, meanwhile, said in a statement that his campaign is on track to raise what it needs to win.

“Having launched my campaign for Senate less than three months ago, I am pleased with the overwhelming support I am getting from Kansans all across the state,” he said. “With nearly $400,000 raised in the first quarter, we are closing the generosity gap. We are on schedule to raise every dollar needed to help carry our message to voters in Kansas and win the election in 2010.”

Brownback is running for governor.
