Pompeo to run for Tiahrt’s seat

Mike Pompeo announced on Thursday that he will run for Rep. Todd Tiahrt’s (R-Kan.) House seat, becoming the second Republican to jump in the race.

Pompeo is a Republican National Committee member and president of Sentry International, a oilfield and industrial machinery company. He joins state Sen. Dick Kelsey in the race for the Republican leaning district.

Tiahrt is running for Sam Brownback’s (R) seat in the Senate. Brownback is stepping down to run for governor.

The Hill reported in February that Pompeo was a possible contender for the seat. Other include Wichita City Councilwoman Susan Schlapp and her son, former Bush administration staffer Matt Schlapp. State Sen. Susan Wagle is another possibility.
