Calif. sets special election dates to fill Solis seat
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) set the special election to fill the House seat vacated by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, as well as the primary that will almost surely determine the district’s next member of Congress.
Schwarzenegger set the special election for July 14, with the special election primary for the state’s 32nd congressional district set for May 19.
Democrats will have to choose between state Sen. Gil Cedillo, state Board of Equalization Chairwoman Judy Chu, and banker Emanuel Pleitz in the heavily-Democratic district.
The district represents the northeastern Los Angeles metro area. Solis won reelection to the seat this past fall with 100 percent of the vote, having run unopposed.
