Guedry gears up for a run against Titus

John Guedry insists he hasn’t made up his mind whether he is going to challenge first term Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-Nev.), but he sure sounds like he’s running.

Aaron flagged a story on Guedry over the weekend and we got with him on Monday. Guedry resigned as executive vice president for City National Bank last week and, in an interview, emphasized that he’ll make a final decision in the next couple months.

“I am very serious about this path,” he said. “I am just really finalizing a few things that I feel I need to do to make sure I represent and my state to the best of my ability.”

Guedry also said that he has spoken with the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and that he is rapidly going forward with interviewing campaign staff and setting up a fundraising operation.

The Republican said he is running because he has a “philosophical difference” with Titus over the role of government. He advocates for a more limited government and believes the increased government involvement in the free market, as well as expanded services are not what voters cast their ballots for.

“I am an opponent of a larger government,” he said.

Republicans have been eying Titus’s southeast Nevada seat since she defeated three term GOP Rep. Jon Porter by five points last year. President Obama carried the district lat year and Republicans likely think that Titus will be in trouble with Obama on the top of the ticket.

On the other side, Obama carried the district by a whopping 12 points after it had been decided by just a point in the 2000 and 2004 presidential races.

If the GOP is going to start making a comeback in the mountain west region, though, Titus will likely be a seat they’ll need to carry.
