Dems target Vitter on FEMA nominee

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) targeted Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) Wednesday for holding up the confirmation of President Obama’s nominee to lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The Democrats blasted Vitter for holding up the nominee to lead the agency that was widely criticized for its handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated large portions of Louisiana.

“Out of all the Senators to hold up the FEMA Nominee, leave it to Louisiana’s own David Vitter to be the one,” said DSCC Communications Director Eric Schultz. “Every time Senator Vitter makes a move he proves he’s an out of the mainstream extremist, out of touch with Louisianans.”

“As we approach hurricane season, Senator Vitter ought to put politics aside for a moment and let the Senate confirm a nominee who has an impeccable record,” Schultz added.

Vitter has said that he is placing a hold on the nomination until he gets more answers about hurricane recovery efforts in his home state.

Obama nominated Craig Fugate, the director of Florida’s emergency management agency, to head up FEMA.
