Candidates Quadrupled Late Night Talk Appearances

The road to the White House may really run through David Letterman, as presidential candidates quadrupled their appearances on late night comedy shows this election cycle compared to 2004.

Presidential candidates made 110 appearances on late night comedy shows on the major networks and cable, a study by the nonpartisan Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) found.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) led the pack with 17 appearances on the shows, followed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) at 16, and Barack Obama at 15.

The appearances were largely front-loaded during the election cycle to increase initial exposure to voters, and twice as many candidates announced their official plans to run on the shows compared to 2004.
