Former Rove Aide Mulls Race Against Blanche Lincoln

Former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin is considering running as a Republican against Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D) in Arkansas’s 2010 Senate race.

Griffin, a former interim U.S. Attorney who was installed amidst the controversial firing of his predecessor, was previously an aide to former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove. Democrats have alleged that Rove orchestrated the firings of a handful of U.S. Attorneys across the country for political reasons.

Griffin said he would make an issue of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), a measure backed by unions and derided by business groups, on which Lincoln has not yet made up her mind.

Griffin told the Associated Press he would explain his role in the attorneys’ firings should he run.

“Obviously it was not handled the way it should have been,” Griffin said. “It’s unfortunate, and those were a tough couple of years for me and my family.”
