Caroline Kennedy Going After Senate Seat

Caroline Kennedy is actively seeking the Senate seat that will be vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), according to The New York Times.

Kennedy plans to ask New York Gov. David Paterson (D) to consider her for the post, which Sen. Clinton plans to leave to become secretary of State. Kennedy has hired a political consulting firm headed by a former chief of staff to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.). She also began calling political figures, including state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D), to tell them of her interest in the seat on Monday morning.

Kennedy is the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy. Her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy, held the seat in the 1960s.
