Rep. Walz Passes on Run for Minnesota Governorship

Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) looks like he will stay put in Congress, telling a Minnesota news website he would not run for governor in 2010.

“I didn’t see it as something that I would do,” Walz told MinnPost. “I think my skills are better-suited for the Congress.”

While Walz did not immediately say he would run for reelection to his House seat in 2010, he ruled out a run for the state’s executive job.

“I’m happy that people appear to be looking to a more centrist approach,” he said. “I’m comfortable right where I’m at.”

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) is term-limited in 2010, leaving open the race in both parties.

“I’m very very engaged in making sure we get someone in that spot who will invest in Minnesota the way I think we need to,” Walz added, though he said he had no idea who he might endorse in the race.
