Poll: Chambliss Expands Lead Before Runoff
Sen. Saxby Chambliss’s (R) has expanded his lead over Democrat Jim Martin to seven points in Georgia’s Senate runoff, a day before voters decide whether or not to send Chambliss back to Washington.
A Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey found Chambliss leading with 53 percent to Martin’s 46 percent in the runoff. One percent remained undecided. A candidate needs to win a majority of the votes in order to win.
A PPP poll last week showed Chambliss ahead, but by a 52-46 margin.
71 percent of white voters said they would support Chambliss in the runoff, leading PPP to conclude the race is an uphill battle for Martin, who would need an historic Democratic turnout on Tuesday in order to win.
