Poll: Obama Virtually Tied With McCain in Louisiana

A new poll shows John McCain leading Barack Obama 43 percent to 40 percent in Louisiana.

The poll, conducted by Loyola University pollster Ed Renwick for WWL-TV in New Orleans, has a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.

“It’s closer than I thought it would be,” Renwick told WWL-TV. He added that increased turnout would benefit Obama, who is winning 83 percent of the African-American vote. Obama is winning more than 90 percent of the black vote in other states.

All other polls of Louisiana have shown McCain with a double-digit lead. The Pollster.com trend line of all Louisiana surveys has McCain ahead 51 percent to 40 percent.
