Freshman Rep. Chris Carney (D-Pa.) leads his opponent, Republican businessman Chris Hackett, 50 percent to 35 percent, according to a poll conducted by the Lycoming College Polling Institute, as reported by The Times Tribune of Scranton and PolitickerPA.
Just weeks ago, the same poll showed Carney at just 46 percent to Hackett’s 36 percent. The percentage of undecided voters has fallen from 18 percent to 15 percent.
Carney won election to the conservative northeastern Pennsylvania district in 2006 after veteran Rep. Don Sherwood (R) became tainted by scandal when his alleged former mistress accused him of choking her during a visit to his Washington apartment.
