al Qaeda Supporter Backs McCain

A supporter of al Qaeda said on a website that John McCain is the better choice for president for those who want to exhaust the United States, reports the Associated Press.

On the al Qaeda-linked site, monitored by a U.S. intelligence group, a supporter of the group said that McCain is the candidate more likely to continue wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier,” a message on the site reads. “Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush.”

The intelligence group who translated the message, SITE, attributed it to Muhammad Haafid. SITE, however, said that Haafid doesn’t have direct knowledge of al Qaeda operations.

The message said that a terrorist attack on the U.S. that could help McCain.

“If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests, this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida,” the message reads. “Al-Qaida then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it.”

The McCain campaign had no immediate comment.
