Why Dianne Feinstein won’t run for governor

Whether Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) will run for governor of California next year is the subject of much speculation right now in the Golden State, especially with polls showing that she would crush her competition.

But veteran California newspapermen Jerry Roberts and Phil Trounstine say Feinstein is likely to stay out of the race in their latest post on calbuzz. The whole thing is worth a read, but Roberts, who has written a biography of Feinstein, says she won’t run for three reasons: Policy (she’s got a plum gig as the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee and wouldn’t to give that up to work with inexperienced state legislators); Politics (she has a history of being risk averse); and Personal (she is, as they write, older than the Golden Gate Bridge.)
