GOP Poll Shows Close Senate Race in Georgia

A Republican poll released Thursday showed Democrat Jim Martin within striking distance of unseating incumbent Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) in Georgia.

Chambliss led with 47 percent to Martin’s 44 percent, with Libertarian Allen Buckley drawing four percent. Five percent of voters said they were undecided.

The poll comes after a series of other polls have showed a winnowing margin between the Gerorgia Republican and Martin. This poll was conducted by Strategic Vision for the Republicans.

49 percent of those surveyed said they approved of the way Chambliss is handling his job, while 41 percent said they disapproved. Only 10 percent of Georgia voters said they approved of Congress’ job as a whole.

The poll, conducted October 5-7, has a three percent margin of error.
