McCain Founds ‘Country First’ PAC to Aid 2010 Efforts

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) established a new PAC in December co-opting a campaign slogan to support federal candidates in coming election cycles.

McCain filed paperwork founding the “Country First PAC” on December 9th, according to Federal Election Commission documents. The new PAC, headquartered in Alexandria, Va., lists Keith Davis, a New Jersey-based local Republican official.

McCain will publicly announce the PAC’s formation today, CNN reported, and the fund will be used to help McCain’s own 2010 reelection campaign, as well as broader GOP efforts throughout the country.

“Country First” was a recurring slogan throughout McCain’s presidential campaign this past fall, and was also the title of an ad hitting then-Sen. Barack Obama for inexperience on foreign affairs while highlighting McCain’s long tenure in government.

According to the FEC, the new PAC has neither received nor spent any money.

UPDATE: A website for Country First has gone online, featuring a video with audio from a McCain speech, and inviting donors to become “charter members” of the new organization.
