Clinton Doesn’t Delve Into Race For Her Seat

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) won’t say anything about the campaign for her Senate seat.

“This is entirely Governor [David] Paterson’s decision,” Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines told TPM Election Central in an e-mail on Tuesday.

“Senator Clinton completely respects the privacy of his process so will not be commenting on it or any individual candidate, nor does any third party speak on her behalf,” Reines added.

The remarks by Clinton’s office comes a day after Caroline Kennedy began calling New York officials to declare her interest in succeeding Clinton, who is leaving the Senate to become secretary of State.

Paterson, a Democrat, said he’ll choose someone to fill the seat as soon as Clinton is confirmed to her new post. Kennedy, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (D) and Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D) have all been mentioned as possible picks.
