Carmouche Concedes La. Race to Fleming
Democrat Paul Carmouche has conceded defeat in Louisiana’s 4th congressional district, formally ending speculation that he will seek a recount in Republican John Fleming’s 356-vote victory.
“Of more than 92,000 votes cast throughout the 13 parishes of this district, it appears that our campaign has fallen slightly short,” Carmouche said in a statement. “I will not ask for a recount of any of the paper ballots, and I offer my warmest congratulations to Dr. Fleming.”
Republicans had alleged a slowness to concede the race, and criticizing Carmouch for not yet admitting defeat in the December 6th contest.
Fleming will succeed Rep. Jim McCrery (R), who retired.
“It has been the highest honor to serve as the Caddo Parish District Attorney for the past three decades and I look forward to exploring ways in which I may be of continued service to this great community,” Carmouche said.
