Marist Poll: Kennedy, Cuomo Co-Favorites for Senate

The second poll released Tuesday of possible replacements for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) found that both Caroline Kennedy and state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo have strong support from New Yorkers.

According to the Marist survey, Kennedy and Cuomo each have the support of 25 percent of New Yorkers. They’re followed by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, who received the support of 6 percent. A slew of candidates each get 4 percent or less, including Rep. Nydia Velazquez, Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

All of the candidates included in the poll are Democrats. New York Gov. David Paterson (D) said he’ll wait until Clinton vacates her seat to choose her successor.

A Public Policy Polling survey released earlier Tuesday found that Kennedy is the clear favorite among New Yorkers to take the seat.
