Fred Thompson Reemerges, Attacks Obama on Judges
Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson (R) jumped back into presidential politics Thursday, hosting a John McCain campaign conference call blasting Barack Obama’s support of last week’s Supreme Court decision granting habeas corpus rights to detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay.
Thompson, who as a candidate frequently railed against “activist judges,” called the decisions “another example of the Supreme Court making policy.”
Following the decision, Obama immediately expressed support for the court’s ruling. McCain, meanwhile, has called it the “one of the worst decisions in the history of this country.”
Thompson said the two opposing views on the ruling show “the difference between John McCain and Barack Obama.”
“If you want a Supreme Court that makes policy, choose Obama,” Thompson said.
