Isakson Under 50 Percent in Reelect Poll

First-term Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) may be in for a tough reelection battle come 2010, a new independent poll found Tuesday.

Mirroring Sen. Saxby Chambliss’s (R-Ga.) struggles, Isakson received under 50 percent in a poll testing him against two potential Democratic opponents.

A survey by Public Policy Polling (PPP) found Isakson receiving 45 percent to Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker’s 39 percent; Isakson leads Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.) 47-38 percent.

The poll was conducted November 22-23, and has a 3.3 percent margin of error.

30 percent of Georgians surveyed said they approved of Isakson’s job, while 44 percent said they were unsure. 25 percent of likely voters disapproved of the way Isakson is handling his job.

Isakson was elected in 2004 after defeating Rep. Denise Majette by 16 points in the general election.
