Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) is blaming “suspicious and fast-moving events” for bringing down his congressional campaign website hours after introducing 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush on the House floor Monday night.
A statement from Kucinich’s campaign says that shortly after posting the articles the campaign “noticed irregularities” that were “possibly external tampering.”
Shortly after Kucinich introduced the articles of impeachment, the site shut down. At the time the site was receiving roughly 100,000 visits per hour, a level of traffic that “should have been manageable,” according to the campaign.
“For security reasons, we’re not at liberty to discuss the specific problems nor reveal the additional safeguards and precautions we’re taking to avoid a recurrence,” Kucinich campaign spokesman Andy Juniewicz told The Briefing Room.
“Whatever it was that crippled our site at such a crucially important time remains to be conclusively determined.”
The site appears to be working Tuesday afternoon, though an initial attempt by The Briefing Room was unsuccessful.
