Virginia Newspapers Reject NRA’s Anti-Obama Ads

Two newspapers in the battleground state of Virginia refused to accept ads by the National Rifle Association that attack Barack Obama over gun control laws, reports The Virginian-Pilot.

The Pilot, of Hampton Roads, and the Richmond Times-Dispatch wouldn’t package the papers they deliver to subscribers in plastic bags that carried that NRA’s message. The bags would have read “Vote for Freedom… Defeat Obama.”

The Times-Dispatch’s strategic marketing coordinator, Frazier Millner, told the Pilot that his newspaper won’t run the ad “for the NRA on Election Day or any other day.”

The NRA has endorsed John McCain for president and has said that Obama would be “most anti-gun president in American history.”
