McCain Defends Robo Calls

John McCain defended his campaign’s robo calls linking Barack Obama to former Weather Underground member William Ayers in an interview with CBS’s Harry Smith.

“That robo call is exactly accurate. And by the way, Senator Obama’s campaign is running robo calls as we speak,” McCain said, stressing that the robo call does not contain anything that is factually untrue.

“He was friends with a terrorist and his wife–he was. And we need to know the full relationship,” McCain said in the interview, which was taped Monday and televised this morning.

Of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R) criticism of the calls, McCain said: “Well Sarah is a maverick…I’m sure Sarah and I have disagreed on some issues.”
