McCain: Palin Will Do Fine
John McCain says his vice presidential running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), will do fine in her debate against Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) tonight.
While questions are being asked of Palin’s experience level, McCain told CNN that the Alaska governor in fact has more experience than the combined Democratic ticket.
“She’s had more experience in leadership than Senator Obama and Senator Biden put together,” McCain said, likely alluding to her executive experience as a mayor and governor.
Palin faces mounting pressure ahead of tonight’s debate, where the public will get its first extended look at her outside the handful of high-profile, primetime interviews Palin has conducted in the past weeks. Some of that pressure has been brought on by Palin’s own performance in those interviews, as she has caught heat for responses to questions about Supreme Court cases, her own foreign policy credentials, and what newspapers she reads.
McCain, for his part, said some attacks on Palin have been “remarkable” to him.
“I think the American people decide what is fair. I know that there have been attacks on Sarah Palin that bave been remarkable to me in many ways,” McCain said when asked whether it is fair to criticize the governor for her recent response to a question about Supreme Court cases, in which she was unable to name a case she disagrees with other than Roe v. Wade.
Palin and the McCain camp have previously expressed outrage at attacks on Palin’s family, which they claimed were being made by Barack Obama’s campaign. Obama supporters denied that such attacks were being made, and the McCain campaign produced a list of attackers that included a liberal blogger and a member of Obama’s finance committee.
